We’ve all been there before. You’re juggling a million different things, trying to keep all the balls in the air, and suddenly you feel it: that telltale tightening in your chest, the knot in your stomach, the headache coming on. Yep, it’s stress. And it’s totally normal to feel stressed from time to time. But when stress starts to take over and feels like it’s running your life, that’s when it’s time to take action.

Fortunately, there are lots of different ways to bust stress and help yourself relax. From deep breathing exercises to talking to a friend, these stress-busting tips will help you get back to feeling like yourself again in no time.

1. Take a Few Deep Breaths

When you’re feeling stressed, your body goes into fight-or-flight mode, which means your heart rate and blood pressure start to rise. One of the quickest and easiest ways to calm your body down is by taking some deep breaths. Inhale slowly through your nose, letting your stomach expand. Then exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat this several times until you start to feel more relaxed.

2. Make Lifestyle Changes

This isn’t about trying to become the healthiest version of yourself (although that can be great too)—but looking to actively reduce stress in your life and welcome more calm. From working meditation into your daily routine to trying daily CBD oil with a Cannabis Clinic prescription, there are lots of things you can do everyday to beat stress. Not only that but exercise is a great way to release pent-up energy and tension and can help as part of your daily life too. It also helps improve your mood by releasing endorphins, aka “happy hormones.” You don’t have to go for a run or hit the gym; even a short walk around the block can make a difference.

3. Connect with Nature

Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress levels and improve moods. So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, step outside for some fresh air and take in the sights and sounds of nature around you. Whether it’s watching the birds at your local park or taking a hike in the woods, spending time surrounded by greenery is sure to help chase away those stressors.

4. Talk it Out With Someone You Trust

Sometimes all you need is someone to lend a listening ear—and that’s OK! Talking openly about what’s causing you stress can help you gain some clarity and perspective on the situation. Choose someone who makes you feel comfortable and won’t judge you; this could be a close friend, family member, therapist, or anyone else who provides support in times of need. Just getting everything off your chest can help relieve some of that built-up stress.

5. Unplug From Technology

Disconnecting from technology for even just an hour can do wonders for your stress levels. When we’re constantly connected, we’re bombarded with notifications, emails, texts, etc., which can quickly lead to information overload. If possible, try disconnecting from electronics altogether for a bit each day—even if it’s just while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee. You may find that some much-needed downtime helps clear your head and reduces stress.
