According to a recent survey, the average adult spends 90% of their time indoors, with close to 70% of this time being spent at home. While this is unsurprising as we begin to emerge from various lockdowns, the fact remains that you will still continue to spend a great deal of time at home moving forward. This is particularly true for single parents with young children to care for. As a result, it’s important that you can enjoy the time you spend at home.

One way in which you can make your home’s environment better is by changing up the atmosphere a little, creating a space that feels warm and welcoming to anyone who steps through the door.

With that in mind, here are some easy ways to change your home’s atmosphere for the better.

  • While cleanliness and organisation are important, remember that having a tidy home is not the most important thing in the world. Despite what you may have been led to believe, your home does not have to be as spotless as it was the day you moved in. While you should ensure that you keep on top of your cleaning schedule, allowing yourself to be a little untidy here and there can allow you (and your children) to feel more relaxed and comfortable in your home.
  • Taking care of the environment has quickly become one of the biggest concerns that we face in the modern world, especially due to the ever-growing number of reports about the irreparable damage we have already caused. Therefore, you can begin to feel better at home by engaging in eco-friendly practices – giving you much greater peace of mind. For example, you could look into community solar in your local area. This will enable you to switch to a much more sustainable energy source (solar energy) without having to install a costly panel in your home.
  • When decorating your home, pay close attention to colour psychology. Believe it or not, the colour you choose to paint your room can greatly impact how you feel when you are in the space. For example, yellow shades are known to increase your mood and happiness, whereas pale blues and greys can be soothing and calming. While this is important throughout the home, the colour you paint your bedroom can transform your rest
  • Whether you run your own business or began working remotely during the pandemic, working from home does have its drawbacks. This is because you will begin to associate a space that was once relaxing and calming with work and, subsequently, stress and anxiety. These feelings can be hard to shake off at the end of the day. Thankfully, there are various ways in which you can combat this. For example, you can set up a designated workstation – so that you aren’t working in your home or within a communal area. You should also ensure that you set strict boundaries when working so that you do not spend more time behind your desk than is strictly necessary.
