Often when we see someone who is fit and healthy, we think, “they must have lots of spare time and the money to be healthy and exercise.” What we don’t realize is that many of these people simply live smart to achieve their health and fitness.

Being helathy and getting fit doesn’t have to cost a fortune or take up lots of your time. You just need to get smart with the following habits.

Eat Healthily

The healthiest food is actually the cheapest, not the most expensive. Yes, goji berries and kale can be costly, but you don’t need “superfoods” to be healthy. All you need is a lot of natural vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds. These are usually the cheapest foods in the supermarket.

We have all been conditioned from a young age to believe we need animal products in every meal throughout the day. The truth is, animal products are the most expensive items in the supermarket, and eating too much of them is making us unhealthy.

So, save some money and work towards incorporating more plant foods into your diet.

Exercise at Home

Another common belief we have is that getting into shape is expensive and time-consuming. You need a gym membership, the best gym clothes, and running shoes. This is entirely untrue. 

You can get into shape with just 20-30 minutes a day with nothing but an exercise mat and YouTube. Online fitness coaches like Joe Wicks have proven that even the busiest mums can get into shape with his short daily workouts.

Everyone can spare 20-30 minutes a day, especially when you consider that Americans watch an average of five hours of TV per day.

Drink Water

For most of us, we are privileged to have clean running water straight out of our taps. Research has repeatedly shown that drinking 2-3 liters of water per day can have a profound effect on your overall helath and wellbeing.

Drinking enough water has been proven to help with weight loss, lubricate joints, delivers oxygen throughout the body, boosts skin health, cushions the brain and spinal cord, regulates body temperature and helps flush bodily waste.

Many of us are chronically dehydrated without even knowing it. Being dehydrated has terrible consequences for your health. Make sure you drink plenty of water each and every day for optimal health.

Get Outside

Simply walking out in nature has been scientifically proven to improve your health and boost your emotional wellbeing. Reconnecting with nature can help to reduce stress, help with anxiety, and avoid depression.

In a world full of distractions and busy work schedules, we must get out more and be with nature. Humans are not designed to sit in chairs in front of screens all day. This is why when we do get outside in nature, we feel a sense of belonging, and it boosts our mood.

There is no excuse to not get outside; even our grandparents can take advantage of a walker for elderly to help them get into the garden and reconnect with nature.
