Is Bingo Where It's At-

When I think of bingo, I think of my nan toddling off to the local community centre with her friends… but my younger sister tells me that actually, she loves it. She goes to bingo with her friends at least once a week, and they have a great time. It seems these days, bingo is where all the cool kids go.

When she first mentioned going to bingo, I thought it was some sort of studenty, subversive, ironic thing… but it’s not. They genuinely go along, get their bingo cards and a drink, and crack on. Apparently she and her friends figured out long ago that going to bingo is cheaper than a night getting drunk in the pub, it’s more entertaining, and there’s a chance of going home with more cash than you took out with you.

When you put it like that, it seems like a no-brainer, doesn’t it. Our local bingo hall is only about a block from me but I’ve still never been – mainly because my sister is my only babysitter – so I can’t exactly tag along with her on a night at the bingo! I am intrigued to see what all the fuss is about though so I’m thinking of asking someone else to babysit next time my sister invites me along.

From what my sister says, it’s not all blue rinses and perms; there are loads of people her age there, and she loves going there. I feel like I’m so out of touch with the youth of today – I’d no idea the kids had decided to play bingo instead of get drunk or take drugs!

What about you? Do you play bingo on a night out? Am I the only person who has never tried it? Is it as fun as my sister makes it sound? Do I need to buy my own dabber? I’m thinking it’s time I learn bingo strategies ready for my next night out with my sister!

I tried mecca bingo once but it was too fast paced for me :p i’d played prize bingo years earlier and that was easier. I recall my nan winning quite often though when she used to go.
