Happy 2022! With the energy of the New Year, this is the perfect time to reflect on the last year and set intentions for the year ahead. The start of a new year is always a good chance to implement new habits and make changes in one’s life. It’s a fresh start and while many people set resolutions to completely overhaul or shift/start a new habit, thinking about ways you can add to your life and set intentions for the new year can help create more excitement around it (and less frustration if things slip for a bit).

While there may be a lot you want to do this year, if you love skincare and want to have extra gorgeous skin in 2022, implement these steps here for your best skin yet!

How to Improve Your Skincare Routine in 2022:

Do a mud mask once a week

A mud mask is a way to incorporate a purifying treatment for your skin as well as a relaxing (and fun) one. There are many masks to choose from, for example Blue Lagoon has products to clear out skin pores, like their signature silica mud mask. It is effective and yet gentle enough on the skin so it won’t dry out or stress the skin like some other mud masks can do.

Introduce a face tool for lymphatic drainage

Gua sha has become more popular in recent years, and using a tool and method like this to help with lymphatic drainage can make a major difference in how your skin feels and looks, not to mention it’s very relaxing! Take a few extra minutes at least, as often as you can, and your skin will thank you.

Start using a retinoid in the PM

Using a retinoid in the evenings helps with cell turnover and can cause significant changes in the texture and appearance of your skin. To start off, it is critical to use retinol in small amounts and at a lower percentage, and then gradually work your way up to using more as your skin can tolerate it.

Invest in a good serum

A good serum can be the extra step in your routine that can make a huge impact. You can rotate serums throughout the week depending on what your skin needs. For example, you can use a brightening serum a couple times a week to focus on pigmentation, and when your skin needs a bit more hydration work in a hyaluronic acid.

Never ever skip sunscreen

Sunscreen is an essential step in your skincare routine year-round. With all of the extra steps you are taking to care for your skin, if you skip on the sunscreen you won’t see the results you want and can in fact pick up on more skin damage when you are using products like retinoid that require the use of sunscreen due to increased skin sensitivity.

While it can be easy to want results immediately, it is so important to stay consistent with your skincare routine to really see results. It is crucial to boosting your skin’s health and appearance, and it will take longer than a week to see the results you want to see!
