After a long and tiring day, it’s always such a relief to know that there are so many easy and quick dinner recipes you can throw in the oven. You and your little ones can enjoy a great meal together and don’t have to wait too long for it to be ready.

If you want to continue enjoying these great meals, you should learn how to clean oven. How clean your oven is will impact the quality of your dishes. Dust, grease, and other build-ups in your oven could easily end up in your dish if you don’t clean the oven.

How Often?

How often you should clean your oven depends on how often you use it. If you use your oven a couple of times a week, then you need to ensure you give it a light clean at least every month to prevent grease and food residues from building. These light cleans also ensure you don’t have too much to do when you finally have to give your oven a deep cleaning. If that’s how frequently you use the oven, then you should also give it a deep clean every three months.

On the other hand, you may be able to get away with cleaning the oven at least twice every year if you don’t use it as much. You should schedule the cleaning for just before you use the oven.

Self-cleaning Feature

The self-clean function will certainly save you time and a lot of effort when you need to clean your oven. That being said, you should use the feature only if you are dealing with a moderately dirty oven.  With this function, the oven heats up to a high temperature which builds and removes the accumulated grease and grime.

If this buildup is too much, then the process may not go as smoothly and you may end up with some smoke in your oven. For the crucial reason that is your safety, it is best to roll up your sleeves and get cleaning.

Oven Cleaners: Your Options

You have several options to choose from for your oven cleaner.

  1. Store-Bought Cleaners

Fast and effective. That’s what you get from store-bought cleaners. With a good oven cleaner, you can confidently look forward to the best results. You get the best results when you heat up your oven  to a lukewarm temperature before spraying the liquid cleaner. You can repeat the treatment as many times as it will take to get excellent results.

  1. Natural Cleaners

This is an option for anyone who doesn’t like using chemicals. You can make a paste out of baking soda, water and vinegar. Leave it overnight and then use it on your oven. For a light clean, or if your oven isn’t too dirty, a water (1 part) + lemon (2 part) mixture will do rather well. Keep in mind that natural cleaners may not be as fast-acting as the chemical-based cleaners so you will need to be patient.

Other supplies

Be fully prepared every time you are cleaning your oven. Apart from the cleaner, you will need rubber cleaning gloves and protective safety glasses to protect your eyes and hands, more so if you are using chemical-based cleaners. Pad the floor around the oven with old newspapers and paper towels. To wipe off the grime after applying the cleaner, you will need a microfiber sponge, or damp cloth.

Time Well Spent

Cleaning your oven will take time. Why not turn it into an experience. Have the kids help you do the cleaning and it can be a great time for you to bond as you teach your little ones some responsibility.
