Keeping your dog healthy during their lifetime is an important job and one which is similar to keeping yourself healthy and ticking over through the years. Diet is a huge part of keeping yourself and your pet healthy, and you can make some positive changes to both this January by underhand the impact of different foods on your own body and your dog’s. 

Today we want to look at some of the foods that can keep your dog healthy and their gut happy throughout the years and how you can incorporate these foods into their daily diet. 

Now is the time that we share some of the best foods to give your dog this year to help them keep a healthy and happy gut. 

Sweet potato

It is so important that you consider gut health when feeding your dog. Dogs can eat a lot of things they shouldn’t while out and about and they can suffer from tummy issues as a result. To keep your dog’s fit healthy and balanced – sweet potato is a must. Sweet potato is mild on the gut and will aid digestion to ensure that your dog doesn’t suffer from health issues. You can dice sweet potato into small cubes and roast them, and allow them to cool and take these out on walks to treat your dog. 

Chicken 

Chicken is one of those foods that people will always tell you to try your dog with when they have a sore tummy. When looking for the perfect food for dogs with sensitive tummies, chicken is a brilliant option because it is full of lean protein and will not put strain on the gut. Use chicken to feed your dog little and often when they are ill, and add some to their dinner now and again in daily life to keep them strong and healthy. 

Turmeric 

Turmeric is like a miracle food for your dog and it is one of the most useful spices and herbs to give them. Turmeric has antibacterial properties and it also has anti inflammatory properties and is the perfect ingredient to add into baked goods for your dog. The easiest of these recipes is as follows: 

Simple turmeric pastries 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 sheet ready roll pastry 
  • Turmeric 
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese 
  1. Roll out your pastry into a sheet and sprinkle with Parmesan. Sprinkle turmeric over the top and roll it up. 
  2. Cut into 1 inch thick pieces and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes at 180C. 
  3. Cool completely and keep as a healthy snack for your dog. 

Peanut butter 

Full of healthy fat as well as protein-m – peanut butter is a great option to feed your dog to keep them healthy and their gut happy. It is a good that will keep your dog strong and help them to fight off illness.
