Did you know that you should be getting at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week?

Sounds like a lot doesn’t it? But don’t fret, there are ways you can find ways to exercise in a way that you can build into your everyday routine.

Active Play Time

Have kids? Why not get involved in some active playtime! Not only will you benefit, but so will your children. In a world where kids are stuck to smartphones, tablets, and video games, getting some much-needed exercise altogether is a fantastic way to stay active.

It can be just as easy as bringing a tennis ball or frisbee to your local park and throwing it around in a friendly competition. Have a few more participants (such as friends of your children) available? Start a game like Tag or Capture the Flag.

There are also ways you get them involved in activities you may do alone.

If they have bikes, then a family cycle is great exercise and bonding opportunity. When going riding, plan out your route before heading off. You can even make a day of it, going to different locations and exploring new areas.

House Cleaning

Cleaning the house is that one chore you usually don’t want to do but is something that has to be done from time to time.

However, with a few adjustments, house cleaning can actually be a terrific way to get a workout and burn those calories. When cleaning, focus on increasing your pace and intensity. This is particularly important in chores that involve moving multiple parts of your body such as vacuuming and mopping.

Cleaning chores that also focus on up and down movements can also be good exercise, so don’t neglect wiping mirrors, windows and shower screens. Turn house cleaning into a weekly activity to build a routine. This will eliminate one day you need to get active, while also having a nice, clean home.

Active Hobbies

There is a range of hobbies that involve physical activity, and better yet they can be a lot of fun! Trade a sedentary hobby for one that gets you up and moving, such as dancing.

Dancing is one of the best hobbies for working up a sweat, especially styles that are faster paced. Find a weekly class and get friends involved so you are more likely to stick at it.

Another fantastic active hobby is rock climbing. It’s a great hobby for workouts as you need to use a full range of movements and muscles. Start at indoor venues and if you get comfortable, you can challenge yourself with real rock surfaces.

If you have access to a pool or if you live near one, why not consider swimming. Like the above active hobbies, it works out a range of different muscles and can be excellent cardiovascular exercise. Try different swimming styles to mix it up so you don’t get bored.

Just Walk More

It may seem obvious, but you slip in more exercise into your life by forcing yourself to walk more in everyday situations. Instead of taking a lift, why not take the stairs? Can you walk some of the ways to work before using public transport? Walk to your local store if you’re picking up a few items instead of driving – it all adds up!

If you want to make it more challenging and if you live near an appropriate trail, spend a weekend and go hiking. This is a wonderful way to get outdoors, while usually being lower impact. This walk is sure to be a fun way of exploring anew area and taking in the sights and sounds of nature.
