You’re no slob! In fact, it seems like you spend your every waking moment wiping down, polishing, scrubbing or sweeping something or other. You love nothing more than welcoming guests into a home that is immaculately clean, tidy and fragrant. The trouble is that despite your constant diligence, your home just never stays as clean and tidy as you’d like. The good news is that you’re not alone. All Mums find themselves inadvertently keeping a messy home. Even though it seems that they spend their every waking moment cleaning and tidying.

Here, we’ll look at some of the reasons why your home feels like it’s constantly a mess, and what you can do to make it constantly clean and tody without stress and strain on your part…

Your surfaces are getting invaded by clutter

Are your kitchen surfaces mired by a layer of fudge caused by dust and grease? Are your window sills starting to blacken in places? The more cluttered our surfaces are, the harder it is to get into all the little nooks and crannies necessary to keep them clean. And the more we decorate our surfaces with odds, ends and knick knacks, the less inclined we feel to take them all down to give our surfaces a proper clean.

There’s a fine line between adornments which give your living space colour and personality and clutter. The former can help your home to feel more relaxing, the latter can actively contribute to stress and anxiety, especially when it gets in the way of keeping your home clean.

Your home is carpeted throughout

The feel of soft, fluffy carpet underfoot can be extremely relaxing. But when you have a busy family passing in and out of your home and tracking all kinds of dust, dirt and animal dander from outside, it’s much harder to keep your home looking and smelling fresh.

Moreover, try as you might, when little ones drop and spill their foods and drinks there are some stains that never quite seem to go away. Replacing carpet with solid wood flooring can make it much easier to keep your floors clean. Of course you can always use a rug for areas that you want to keep as soft and comfortable as possible. Alternatively, get your carpets cleaned professionally at least once a year.

You’re trying to do everything by yourself

It can feel like a never-ending battle when you’re the only one keeping your home clean and tidy. The home can only remain at its best when everyone under your roof pulls together to do their part to keep the home clean.

Your family hasn’t gotten into the habit of “resetting the room”

Keeping the home clean is easier when it’s treated as a habit rather than a chore. Try and get the whole family into the habit of “resetting the room”. This means taking a few minutes before leaving a room to ensure that it’s in a state that they’d like to find it in. That means mugs and plates are removed, crumbs are wiped up, sweet wrappers are disposed of and anything brought into the room is taken out again with them.

When everyone pulls together and takes care of the little things, it’s easier to keep your home clean, tidy and happy.
