Stress is disastrous for our body and mind. Whilst short-term stress allows us to focus better, exposure to long-term stress has a number of negative effects. It can lead to high blood pressure, insomnia, bad skin, and even heart disease and death. The takeaway here is you must mitigate stress if you’re suffering ill-effects.

One way to reduce your stress levels is to find ways to nurture your body. In this article, we look at some of the best strategies for doing this.

Take a Break

The first and most obvious thing you should do if stress is dragging you down is to take a break. Whether you need a few hours away from your desk or a month or more will depend on how stressed you are, but a break is absolutely necessary.

Book some time off or ask your boss for some time off for health reasons. Don’t push on regardless, as it will end badly for everyone.

Visit a Spa

Spas are designed to help us relax. Treatments ranging from facials and massages to time spent in a hot tub and jacuzzi. They all work their magic after a few hours. You can switch off from work, de-stress, and unwind.

A day in a spa will nurture your body during times of stress. Enjoy being pampered and make the most of being in a digital-free zone. Take a dip in the pool, lie in a steam room or sauna, and book some beauty treatments. Having your face deep cleansed and your body massaged is incredibly relaxing.

You can even book a couple’s spa experience if spending time in a stress-free environment will help your relationship!

Revamp Your Beauty Routine

When we’re stressed, we don’t tend to spend a lot of time looking after ourselves. Time is usually in short supply, so the rituals of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing may be shoved on to a back burner.

If your body and face are in need of some nurturing, why not look at your beauty routine and see if you can make some changes? Throw out your old products and invest in some new ones. Look for natural, cruelty-free brands free from harmful ingredients such as parabens. Something like rose water has toning and also antiseptic properties, which is perfect if you want to treat yourself and destress at the same time.

Devote a day each week to pampering yourself. Light some aromatherapy candles, apply a face mask and hair mask, and relax for half an hour. Then soak in a hot bath and feel your stresses melt away.

Try Meditating

Meditation, the art of focussed concentration, is great if you are suffering from stress overload. Meditation can relieve stress and help with stress-related health issues such as high blood pressure and anxiety.

There are different types of meditation, including guided meditation and mindfulness mediation. If you have no clue where to start, look for a meditation channel on YouTube and carve out some time in your day to have a go. It can take practice to learn how to block out your thoughts but do persevere, as it really is an excellent stress boosting strategy.

Book a Vacation

A vacation is good for the mind and the body. The average American only takes 16 days off each year, which is probably a significant factor behind workplace stress. A staggering 28 million people in the US don’t get any paid holiday at all, which is dreadful when compared to other nations around the world.

Vacations are necessary when you work in a stressful job. It’s the only time we can actually switch off and unwind. If stress is making you sick, nurture your body with some much-needed downtime on the beach.

Don’t let stress make you ill. If you can’t cope, consult a doctor before it affects your health.
