As a parent, supporting your child in learning can be challenging. Writing is a critical skill that is difficult to master. It’s exciting when your 3-year-old kid begins to scribble. Learning to write starts long before school and is closely tied to reading. So, any difficulty in reading could probably influence children’s ability to learn to write.

Parents are always searching for methods to help their kids in learning to write. Some toddlers take it up immediately, while others require help. Some fathers or mothers may have difficulties in this activity too. They should know how to write as they are the child’s first teachers.

If you are one of those who still don’t know where to start, it’s always a great idea to see examples. Let’s take a look at some essay service online giving ideas on how to support your child. If you’re not good enough at this skill, you might ask, “Who can write my essay?” or “Who can help write my essay?” Many writing essay services are guiding you on how to put your words on paper. Here’s what they advise:

Start Early

Pre-writing skills begin at 12-18 months. Lines and circles are among the first shapes children can copy by the age of 3-4. A typical toddler starts simple, familiar letters like those in their names by the age of approximately 3.5-4.

However, this can’t be generalized to everyone, as every child is unique. Let your children learn at their own tempo. They should be really excited to start, not being pushed before  getting ready.

Make it fun

Parents as home-first coaches should honor toddlers’ imagination and encourage them to communicate their ideas in the process of acquiring this knowledge. It should seem like a play, not another school chore. As a creative activity, play is memorized by the child. Therefore, kids could learn better through play and repetition. Below are some ideas to make learning an entertaining activity, including:

  • Chalking on the floor
  • Painting and drawing
  • Forming Play-Doh Letters
  • Using sand or a salt/flour tray
  • Making letters with shaving foam
  • Colorful wipeable learning mats
  • Forming letters by pushing a car through sand

Beware of gender differences

Boys are partly less advanced than girls with respect to writing skills. Many boys often prefer playing with toys or outside. It could be difficult for boys to sit down and pay attention as they are more active than girls. For this reason, boys may need more fun and play to be engaged in this assignment.

Develop basic motor skills

The ability to hold a pencil in one’s hand for coloring and scribbling, the ability to work with papers and scissors, and the coordination of hands and eyes to track patterns on a paper are basic motor skills that can be developed at home. As soon as your boy or girl is interested in pencils and paper, encourage them to scribble and color.

Learn letter formation

Letter formation follows on from early reading when youngsters realize the relation between sounds, letters, and words. They start random letter formation and should also know where to put the letters in accordance to lines on the page.

Ideas to help improve skills and have fun at the same time

Here are some tips to support your kid through learning how to write:

  1. Provide plenty of writing material to your toddlers like paper, crayons, pencils, and chalks.
  2. Scribbling helps toddlers become accustomed to compositions and express their ideas. Developing necessary motor skills also helps build hand muscles and enhance hand control.
  3. Assign a separate place to this activity in your home where your child can practice away from distraction.
  4. Encourage your kids to tell you the story of their drawing and what they intend to show. Asking many questions will encourage them to think critically.
  5. Practice over and over again. This activity, like any other skill, needs lots of practice. Repeating will help understand how to form letters.
  6. Support your toddler to write their name. Draw attention to each letter so that they understand it properly. It takes time, but don’t give up and keep trying as this is an important skill kids should master.
  7. Motivate your baby to compile their own books. Your toddler storybook on the shelf next to plenty of books on your bookcase will give them the feeling of pride.
  8. Admire your kid as much as you can. Remember that simple words of encouragement can work as magic boosting your toddler’s talent. Try to find good things in their draft.
  9. Intense reading could develop more ideas to express on the paper. Reading plays the leading role as a complement in this skill. Educational magazines can be more beneficial than typical books since youngsters will enjoy reading these glossy magazines.
  10. Ask for help with the shopping list. Regular writing activity is a reliable modeling technique as it reveals how this skill will be used in everyday life.
  11. Write to faraway friends and relatives. Assist your kid in writing to distant relatives or friends who they don’t get to see very often. This activity provides a chance of talking about what they’ve been up to and extends their vocabulary.
  12. Give toddlers the chance to understand the link between words in a written text by pointing to terms in reading stories or writing words mentioned in a conversation.
  13. Create an alphabet book. Making an alphabet book sounds like a fun way of getting familiar with letters in the alphabet. In the alphabet books, the learning process is accompanied by visual aids where each letter is illustrated per page with a picture of an object starting with that letter. Kids can draw the items or fill in the letters.

Bottom line

If you still have concerns concerning your under school-aged boy or girl, there’s no need to worry. Just follow the given ideas here and focus on inspiration, admiration, and interaction.  Try to have fun, and then the activity will naturally happen by itself.
