Whether it’s an old wives tale or something you read on Facebook, then chances are when it comes to reacting to a minor medical situation, you may think you are armed with the knowledge, but the chances are you are treating things wrong and have been for quite some time.

In this post, we are going to be giving you some factual information that you may find helpful when it comes to little medical issues that may crop up with you or your family.

What’s An Emergency And What isn’t?

It seems that given the state of the medical system in the country that telling the difference between what is an emergency and what’s not is in fact, harder than ever. While you may think that there are lots of things that may cause you to visit A&E, there are very few reasons you should actually attend and many things can be dealt with at home or by the local walk-in clinic.

Of course, there are some situations that may require emergency attention at home that a hospital cannot help with. It may seem shocking, but many people with toothache still go to A&E rather than visit a Dentist that deals with medical emergencies.

If you are in doubt about your injury, there are now numbers like triple one you can call for assistance and guidance.

Dealing With Minor Burns

While there are many people who will take a minor burn to A&E, if it’s not too serious, this is something that should be dealt with at home.

What you may not know though is how to deal with a burn at home. It seems that no matter where you go if you see somebody with a burn, there will be somebody nearby given the age-old advice of run that burn under a cold tap.

Well, the first thing we are going to tell you is to stop. You should never run a burn under a cold tap or let it come into contact with ice. The truth is, when people do this, it will often make the burn worse.

You should be running the burn under, or soaking the area in tepid water. This will neutralise the pain and also help with the healing process further down the line.

Dealing With Concussion

Something that is common with children is getting the occasional bump on the head. Believe it or not, the concussion is incredibly popular and yet still massively misunderstood.

It seems that if you ask anybody out there what you should do with somebody suffering from concussion, they will tell you not to let them sleep. Well, this seems to have come from movies and got all wrapped up with a different form of concussion, because the truth is, if somebody has a concussion and they fancy a nap, let them, it’s going to do nothing but make them feel a little more rested.
