Being a single parent is by no means an easy task. You have to take on many roles that would otherwise be split with your partner, and this, in itself, is something extremely commendable. You have to be doing a million things at one time, making sure the meals are made, school bags and lunches are packed, homework is done, and that your children feel secure and loved in their environment. Sometimes, this can be daunting – it really is a lot for any one person to bear. The good news is, you don’t have to neglect your mental and spiritual well-being in order to maintain the level of parenting that you strive for. Here are a couple of guiding points on how to keep yourself together while you undergo this duty of yours.

Yoga

You might think you don’t have time to keep in touch with your spirituality because you’re so busy trying to balance keeping your children, household, and career in check. But yoga is an amazing way for you and your children to take some time out and connect with what you tend to neglect in the chaos of your daily life. If you assign at least half an hour a day for you and your children to meditate, you will be able to calm ourselves and remember that things can be simple again and not always so fast-paced. You’ll be surprised to see the effect it will have on you both mentally- peace of mind is something that is attainable.

Turn to the Stars

Every once in a while, make it a habit to spend time with your children, laying outside, staring at the stars, and identifying the constellations. Get away from the monotony of your everyday lives and teach them about astronomy as well. You need to find things that connect you with your children as a single parent. When they learn about their signs, it will help them (and you) to get familiar with traits that they never knew about before. Regardless of what your signs are, even if you are a Scorpio and your kid sits under the Capricorn horoscope, you’ll be able to find traits that are compatible with one another and it’ll be a great tool to bring you closer together. It can allow you to tap into a more spiritual connection between you.

Therapy

As a single parent, it is important for you to stay mentally stable. It can be extremely stressful to do this two-man job all on your own, so there is no shame in admitting to yourself that you need a bit of help. Going to therapy, whether it is in a group or on your own, helps you to identify your insecurities and fears, and reminds you that you are human. And by doing this, you will be able to openly deal with the spiritual and mental setbacks that you may be dealing with due to all the pressure that you are under as you try to cope with being a single parent. You can even take your children to therapy as well. It’s important that neither of you loses faith and fall victim to depression. Your circumstances don’t define you, the way you live through it does.

These simple but effective tools will make a world of difference in your mental and spiritual well being as you take on the responsibilities of being a single parent. They will teach you to embrace your situation and in turn, you will be able to foster confident young minds in your children as they will feed off your mental and spiritual vibes.
