There’s nothing worse than having a wonderful weekend planned only to have your plans hampered by wet weather. It’s disappointing to say the least, but now you have to find ways to keep the little ones occupied and preferably getting along until the weather sorts itself out. It can seem like a mammoth task, but don’t worry! I’ve got you covered with these 6 ways to keep your little ones busy on a wet weekend.

Have fun!

Get some colouring done

There’s something really therapeutic about colouring. In fact, experts have likened it to the same mental state as meditation. The focus, the gentle concentration they’re proven ways to lower your blood pressure and relax you. So, why not let the kids enjoy it too? Print off some colouring pages from the internet – check out this website for the latest printer ink prices – and find those crayons and colouring pens. And why don’t you join in too? Treat yourself to a colouring book for grownups and some gorgeous new colouring pens. I can feel my shoulders relaxing already!

Rock painting

This one might require a little planning in advance but it’s super fun. Get some small rocks and pebbles and let your children paint and decorate them anyway they like. Then, when the rain has stopped you can let them hide them in the local park, in your local area, or at a beauty spot for others to find and re-hide. You can leave messages on the rocks too! It’s super fun!

Give them jobs

It’s amazing how quickly older children can find ways to occupy themselves when they suddenly have chores to do! Getting your children to help you with chores around the house will certainly pass the time and give you a helping hand! Make sure the chores are age appropriate and don’t worry if you have a toddler – try giving them a clean sponge or dishcloth and get them to wipe objects down as if they’re helping. They will love following you around and helping out.

Go through old photographs

There’s something really magical about going through old photographs. Even more so these days, considering most images are lost in the depths of social media. So, if you have wallets of old photographs that rarely see the light of day, go through them and let the kids guess who’s in the pictures. Or, swap around some of the pictures in your photo frames and let the kids choose.

Have an indoor picnic

Just because your picnic in the park idea is now ruined, it doesn’t mean that you can’t go ahead with your picnic! Set out the rug in the living room and everything up as you normally would. The kids will love eating on the floor and it’s a lovely way to spend lunch together.

Read

Take some time to snuggle up together and read a book. If you have more than one child, let the pick a book each and read one after the other. Take your time and let them study the pictures and guess what happens next!
