Every parent knows the struggle of school mornings. The kids take forever to get ready, no one knows where anything is, and everyone is rushing around at the last minute. It causes everyone in the home to start their day on a stressful note.

Luckily, there are ways to avoid all that stress and speed up the morning routine, giving you time to focus on your own a.m. rituals:

1. Washing up for school.

The biggest tip for making it out of the house on time in the morning is to have your kids shower or take a bath the night before. This speeds things up in the morning and only leaves kids with a minimal amount of washing up to do before school. When they wake up, they will only have to wash their face, brush their teeth, and do their hair. To make the process even quicker, keep everything they will need for this in the same spot every day. This way they will know right where everything is as soon as they wake up.

2. Getting dressed.

Waiting for kids to get dressed is like watching water boil. It seems to take forever. You can combat this issue by laying clothes out the night before, socks and underwear included, and placing them in the same spot every day so your kids have no excuse for not knowing where their clothes are.

Another way to make the process quicker is to buy your kids socks that are seamless thanks to a cocoon-like knitting process. Kids tend to want to fidget with their socks until the seams are perfect and comfortable on their feed. You can speed up the morning routine easily by getting rid of socks with seams.

3. Eating breakfast.

Cooking and eating breakfast can be a lengthy process if you don’t develop a good routine. Save those big breakfasts for the weekend and find a healthy breakfast made fast. This could be as simple as fruit, yogurt, and granola. The fruit can be cut up the night before, and then all of it can be quickly combined in the morning.

Another quick and healthy breakfast option is whole grain cereal with fruit on the side or whole grain toast with peanut butter and a glass of milk. Breakfast before school doesn’t have to be fancy or elaborate, your kids just have to fill their bellies with brain food and they will be good to go.

4. Gathering everything that needs to be taken to school.

To make your mornings even easier, you should have your kids gather everything the night before. We don’t live in a perfect world, though, and we all run into the problem of forgetting things we need until the morning we need them. Add time into your morning routine to gather everything that the kids need for school. This can include extra shoes for the playground, homework, field trip money, or sports equipment.

5. Getting out the door.

Keep coats, boots, shoes, snow pants, backpacks or anything else the kids need to put on right by the door. Having them in an easily accessible area near the door will allow you the freedom of sending your kids to get themselves ready to get out the door while you finish up your own routine.

Conclusion

Scrambling around all morning trying to get everyone ready is just not fun for anyone. Parents and kids will both benefit from these tips to make the morning routine easier and faster. You may even be able to get out the door on time tomorrow!
