Last month was the hottest May in years – but despite the heat, it was still only spring! The official start of summer is on June 21st at the summer solstice, but a recent survey carried out by Little Tikes found that most of us class the first week of June as the start of holiday season.

Ove 63% of us say that summer is our favourite season – and I think S and I are included in that percentage. Interestingly, when asked what it is that means the start of summer, less than a quarter of respondents said it was hot weather – possibly because hot weather is not really guaranteed over the summer! Instead, some said it was the smell of freshly cut grass; others said it was the smell of a BBQ or the sound of children playing outside. For some it’s their first spray tan or the Queen’s birthday. For the unlucky 3%, they know it’s the start of summer when their hayfever kicks in.

One rather sad statistic from the survey found that almost half of us feel that we don’t spend enough time outside during the summer and would like to change it. This summer Little Tikes is calling on us to make the most of our summer by spending more time together outdoors. Michelle Lilley, Head of Marketing for Little Tikes, said:

It’s no surprise that summer is the favourite season for us Brits – especially with the weather we’ve had this May. There’s nothing better than getting outdoors with all the family and being able to have fun together in the sunshine and that’s something that Little Tikes celebrates.

Little Tikes has a wide range of outdoor play products including sand pits, playhouses, water tables and of course the Cozy Coupe we all know and love. This season Little Tikes also launched the new Fun Zone range featuring some brilliant water play toys.

For me, it feels like summer when we hose down the garden furniture and I can sit and read in the garden. When does summer begin for you?
