You’ve probably heard of Camilla Sacre-Dallerup from Strictly. In 2008 she was a household name, but after she won the show she quit and pretty much disappeared. She left her celebrity status behind her, and set out on a path to reinvention instead. She changed careers to become an author, life and mindful living coach, hypnotherapist and meditation facilitator.

This book is a how-to guide for reinventing your life. It’s a programme created by Camilla to help anyone who wants to make a change in their life. The “Reinvent Me” programme has eight parts:

R  – Recognise: work out where you are, and where you want to be

E – Ego: learn how to free yourself from ego-based decisions

I – Innovation: plan what action you need to take to start turning your dream into a reality.

N – Now: stop procrastinating and start taking action.

V – Visualise: visualise your reinvented life and find the courage within to start your new adventure.

E – Evolve: learn to go with the flow of life and become more you

N – Nurture: discover why it’s essential to nurture your talents and yourself as you go through the process of reinvention

T – Transformation: commit to your reinvention and embrace your new you

The idea is that you work through the book at your own pace, doing the exercises provided, and ultimately emerge “reinvented.”

What I like about this book is that it’s not just some celeb book and she doesn’t seem to be doing it in a cynical, manipulative kind of way to make money. She’s not flaunting her celebrity status at all, and genuinely did go away for several years and train. With so many celebrities coming out with fluffy, ill researched “just think positive innit” nonsense lately, this book is a breath of fresh air.

There are lots of exercises to work through, so even though it’s a fairly small book at 155 pages, it took me a good while to work my way through it. The exercises don’t feel like they’re just something to fill space in the book either; they are real exercises that have helped me to put things in order in my head, and to figure out a few things about my life.

Each section, as well as instructions on what to do and exercises, also has Camilla’s own experience and stories from other people who have been in similar situations. For me this makes the book more believable and give it more authority in what it aims to do. I would say though, that if you’re planning to buy this book thinking it’s a typical celebrity tell-all autobiography, don’t! Although Camilla shares aspects of her personal story, she shares only details that are relevant to that particular part of the “reinvent me” process – there’s no tantalising gossip to be found!

Reinvent Me by Camilla Sacre-Dallerup is published on 20th July.
