Being a single parent, I don’t get out much in the evenings. But when I was asked if I’d like to go to Salisbury Playhouse to see Singin’ In The Rain I knew I needed to find a babysitter!

I’ve overheard so many conversations in shops lately about this performance; everyone seems to be talking about it. And for good reason; it’s bloody amazing.

When the performance began, I thought how nice it was that the “orchestra” were all dressed in full costume. Then I realised that actually, the “orchestra” was the cast, playing real live instruments. They performed throughout the play, regularly coming onto the main stage with their instruments.

As well as playing instruments, the cast sing, dance and of course act. And as the photo above suggests, they sing in the rain as well. I had heard that they had “real rain” but I wasn’t sure if the person I heard it from was just a bit delusional. As it happens, they weren’t. I’ll leave that bit there so as not to spoil it for you, but that particular song is truly magnificent to watch.

This is a great performance for anyone who likes to be entertained, young or old. In fact, if you have teenagers who’ve not been to the theatre before this would be a great way to introduce them to something that for me is a lot more engaging than a movie. It’s a fantastically feel-good performance that’s sure to make you smile.

I was talking to my friend during the interval about the performance; we were both blown away by it. The actors really put their all into the performances, especially the three main performers, Matthew Croke, Christian Edwards and Eleanor Brown. During Make ’em Laugh Edwards’ performance was nothing short of outstanding, and of course Croke’s Singin’ In The Rain was amazing. They seemed to be enjoying themselves on the stage too, which is always a bonus especially considering they’re at Salisbury Playhouse until May 28th before heading off to the Octagon in Bolton and then the New Vic in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

For me this really is a must-see performance, and if you’ve not seen it yet I really would recommend buying tickets.

Singin’ In The Rain is at Salisbury Playhouse until May 28th.
