Benefits of Private Tuition

These days more and more parents are opting to have some form of private tuition for their children. Back when I was young, things like taking the 11+ or getting passable GCSEs weren’t really such a big deal – but these days, children begin training to take their 11+ exam from a very early age, with grammar school places in high demand – and in order to get into a good college one needs very high grades across all subjects.

I know several people whose children are aged from 7 to 16 and use private tutors to help their children either to get that edge when passing exams, or just to help them to keep up in a subject where they struggle.

Wondering How Tutoring Can Benefit Students?

Here are five reasons to use a private tutor:

1 student/teacher ratio

In schools these days class sizes are around 30 and it is hard for teachers to give all children the attention they deserve and need in order to succeed. Private tuition is often on a one-to-one basis, or in very small groups – so your child will get more attention when they need it.

2 Extra explanations

At school often homework is marked as either right or wrong, and the teachers simply don’t have time to sit down and explain to your child how and where they were wrong, and how they can get it right next time. With a private tutor they can sit down for as long as it takes to understand and make sure they get it right.

3 A good match

Most of us have had at least one teacher with whom we’ve not seen eye to eye. It’s natural that a child will not get on with every teacher they have; different personalities will always clash. And in a school, there’s not much you can do about that. When you hire a private tutor you can make sure your child is matched to a tutor with whom they will get along.

4 Test practice

These days there seem to be so many tests at school, and so much seems to hang on how well children do in them. With a private tutor children can practice more for their tests to ensure they walk into the classroom feeling more confident about what they’re being tested on.

5 Different teaching methods

In a class of 30 children, a teacher has to teach in the way that most children will be able to grasp it. With a private tutor, they can spend time getting to know your child to find a way of explaining a topic that your child will not only be able to grasp but to develop and really understand.

Private tuition is no longer the reserve of the rich; many parents feel that by hiring a private tutor they are helping to give their child the very best start in life. There are many benefits to private tuition, both academically and personally. Fleet Tutors has over 35 years’ experience in private tuition, helping young people to reach their potential – from primary, school entrance exams, GCSEs and A Levels to university level and beyond. Their approach is highly personalised, matching your child to the ideal tutor for their personality and needs.

I love your fifth tip about how a private school can use different teaching methods to help your child grasp it. My brother is looking into sending his daughter to a private school. He feels like this could really help her exceed and gain confidence in her abilities.
