This week on my other blog, I’ve set out my goals for the next 90 days for my life and my business. Last year I wrote a post about my goals for this blog, so I thought I would update those also.
Last Year’s Goals:
Post at least five times per week
I definitely nailed this one! At the start of the year I made a weekly schedule of the regular posts I wanted to write and linkys I wanted to join in, and put those in my planner. This meant I had several regular posts each week, as well as the one-off posts I wrote. I think there were weeks where I published over 20 posts!
Launch a Podcast
Not only did I launch the podcast, I re-launched it on my new business website. It started out as me rambling about my life, but soon morphed into a weekly podcast with tips on blogging and social media. The 42nd episode went live this morning and I’ve had positive feedback on the tips I’ve been giving.
Put out an Ebook
I had been planning (wanting) to publish a book for years; I had several ideas and no real direction. Last year I decided to just go for it, make a decision and do it. I published my book, Story of a Breakdown towards the end of the year; it’s currently only available via download from this site, but I’m hoping to get it re-edited and published through Amazon soon.
Get on Top of Blog Maintenance
Nope! I redesigned the blog, but I still have hundreds of posts (growing daily) that are either uncategorised or incorrectly categorised. It’s a massive job that I just haven’t made the time for.
I don’t think I managed every single week of Vloject 52, but I’ve enjoyed posting weekly highlight videos. The project has encouraged me to take more videos, but also to update my YouTube channel more regularly which I have enjoyed. I won’t win any vlogging awards for my short clips of S dancing, but I love that we have this record of her growing up.
I started a Happiness Project last year, with a different challenge for each month – but after a few months it fell by the wayside as I moved on to other things. I value the experience it gave me, as I feel like the challenges I did manage helped me to deal with things later in the year.
Goals for 2016
Post Every Day
I want to focus more on my business site this year; I have a posting schedule in place which works well for me but I want to focus more energy on promoting it and getting the word out. That leaves me less time for this blog, but I still want to make sure I’m updating regularly.
A Change in Direction?
I’ve been thinking a lot about my “ideal reader” and what sort of place I want this site to be. I think this year I want to make this a positive site for people to visit. I’ll keep the personal aspect of it, but I want to look on the bright side of being a single parent a lot more, and be more upbeat. I want to post more about the self development books I’ve been reading and the new skills and habits I’m learning, in the hope of helping other people who are or have been in a similar position to where I once was.
All of my posts about blogging, social media and work are now being posted on my new site, and the posts that were originally published here will eventually be moved across to there.
I purchased a training course last year, which I never completed. This year I want to complete it, but also to continue with my “education.” There is so much to learn about blogging and there’s always something that can be improved. I am always buying books about blogging and this year I also bought a planner which I want to use to keep myself on track.
Be More Professional
This is one of those ridiculous, wishy-washy things that you can’t really measure – which makes it a bad goal! I read a lot of blogs outside of the parenting niche, and those that are being run as a business look and feel very different from mine. I want to earn an income from this site and other things surrounding it, so I want it to look much more sleek… I think I’ll need to get a proper redesign at some point, and learn a lot more about WordPress!
