We love being Parragon Book Buddies; S loves to get a new book in the post each month… and this month was definitely no exception! We received a copy of The Night Before Chrismtas by Clement C Moore and Harriet Muncaster.
Of course, everyone knows Moore’s classic poem; we’ve all read it – or been read it – a million times. But I don’t think I’d ever actually had it in a book on its own. And this one is a beautiful example.
When the words have already been written – and are arguably some of the best known in the world – the illustrations are what makes a book different.
S loves this book; she loves to spend time looking at all the pictures and talking about what’s going on.
I love that some of the pages have more white space with just words and a little picture at the bottom; it breaks the book up a little and makes it seem less busy. S loves this page because of all the shiny presents!
This is a beautiful book to be treasured; Harriet Muncaster has done well to take on such a well known poem, producing wonderful, modern illustrations to bring it to a new generation.
We’re really enjoying reading this book at bed time; S often takes it into bed with her and I’ve caught her reading it to herself in the mornings too! A definite treasured addition to our collection of Christmas books!
Thanks for reading.
