#OctoberLetters

Last year, I decided that we don’t get enough good, old fashioned letters in the post. We get those dreaded windowed envelopes, junk mail, pizza menus, perhaps a package from Amazon. But the days of the handwritten letter are long gone, replaced by email – which was then replaced by text messages, which were replaced by WhatsApp, which was replaced by Snapchat. Snapchat will probably be replaced by something else soon. Meanwhile, my door mat has only those scary brown envelopes from HM Revenue & Customs, and the occasional pizza menu.

I decided to start the OctoberLetters Project, where I decided to send one handwritten letter each day in October. What began as “hmm, maybe I’ll just send letters to my extended family members in order to write a letter a day” turned into sending four letters every day by the last week of the month. People seemed to really like the idea of a real, old fashioned letter. I even went on local radio to chat about it.

Since it went so well, and I got to really improve my letter-writing skills (not to mention my handwriting) I’ve decided to do it again this year! If you would like to receive a letter in October, please fill in the form with your details…

Please note: the form for #OctoberLetters can now be found on my other site. If you filled in a form here, I’m afraid it has not been recorded and you will need to go to the new form and re submit your data.

I’m looking forward to sending some more letters this year; last year I moved house in the middle of the month and it was a bit hectic!

NB I will attempt to send a letter to everyone who responds, but there is a chance I will run out of writing paper/ink/stamps/steam. Please don’t hate me if you don’t get a letter!

What a lovely & wonderful idea. My in-laws write letters to us, including my aunt-in-law and I must say it brightens my day. I have not added to your mailing list because I am living in hope our house sells very soon. Happy writing x

Thanks Bethany! If you move before the end of October do come back and leave your address – I’ll send you a house warming card!

What a beautiful idea, Vicky. Love this! And you’ve reminded me… I promised a friend an old fashioned letter a while back… I should get on with keeping that promise. I’m going to do it this week :) Thank you!

Hi Vicky,
You don’t have to send me a letter. I just wanted to come by to tell you I think it’s wonderful what you are doing.
Paper and writing skills are becoming obsolete. Due to texting, proper spelling is going the way of the wind. I am a teacher, so I know students are losing their spelling skills. I read Sandra Jackson’s post. She asked if literacy will one day be obsolete. Thanks for what you are doing. Nice to see you.
