A friend of mine is expecting a baby. It’s her first, and we’re all very excited. I’ve been putting together bits and bobs into a little box for her ever since she announced her pregnancy, and now I have quite a box full of things for her. The only problem is that she lives in France. How rude! I mean, seriously. Who moves to a different country, and then decides to have a baby? Where was her thought for me in all of this, that’s what I’d like to know! It’s almost as if she doesn’t care that I want to do the cooing baby thing with her (as yet unborn) child.

She moved there a couple of years ago with her partner and his son, and really loves it. One of these days S and I will go and visit them on their smallholding somewhere in the south. I’m rubbish at geography and don’t know anything past Normandy or Paris. I know they definitely don’t live in Paris; somewhere south of there. Apparently they get quite nice summers, and there’s lots of wide open space – which sounds perfect to me. If I could speak French, I’d probbly go and join them to be honest. They seem to have such a laid back, happy life there.

I’ve been sending smaller parcels to her in France since she moved there – birthdays, Christmases, random things I’ve found. But this parcel is getting so big, I think it might end up having to be split into two smaller packages at this rate! She still has a few months to go, and I keep finding things I absolutely have to send her!

The good news is that the parcel service I’m using will come and collect the parcel(s) directly from me – so I just need to make sure whatever I’m sending will fit out the door and down the stairs and we’re laughing!

Hmm, I wonder if a human-sized box would go out of the door and down the stairs… like those crates in Madagascar…

HA! Yeah, I know, I’m lovely!
No really, who wouldn’t want to spoil a new baby!

It is really lovely for us expats to receive parcels from home. When I was pregnant my best friend brought a suitcase of baby items that I ordered from Mothercare, it’s so nice to see those familiar labels in the washing basket :)

Oh I have a friend that did the same= took off to France and then had her third baby, but thankfully they make the big old drive back most summers. I love the idea of it and would have done it myself before kids (and did but I then came home and got sucked back into Yorkshire!) but now I couldn’t take my boy away from my parents
