i-like-myself

Do you like yourself?

It feels like we’re not supposed to say we like ourselves, especially as women. It’s big headed and vain to say we like who we are, we’re proud of our achievements, we think we have a good personality or we look good.

Big headed, up her own arse, conceited, snooty, vain, self-centred, egotistical, narcissistic. We say all of these things bout a person when they seem to like themselves – but perhaps we’re just jealous that this person seems so comfortable in their own skin, while we don’t feel so great in our own?

You’re not supposed to be happy with yourself, you’re not supposed to like yourself.

Well, I say balls to that. I say we should all like ourselves. We should all love ourselves. Life is far too short not to, isn’t it?

So let’s start now. Let’s start by saying

I like myself because…

I like myself because I am a good mother.

I like myself because I am a kind person.

I like myself because I make an effort to help others.

I like myself because I am strong and resilient.

What about you?

This is very true. We always tend to criticise ourselves too much. For personal development we focus overly on remedying our weaknesses whereas we’d be wiser to focus on recognising our strengths and building on them further. Thanks for this post.

That’s a great point. I think we pay too much attention to the things we find lacking and forget to notice the areas in which we excell.

I like myself because I’ve come a long way and fought a hard battle to overcome my past and I’ve finally found peace and am finally able to forgive those who have hurt me. This is a HUGE accomplishment for me. I like myself because I worked my ass off for 10 years getting through college, while raising children and dealing with a mental illness and I’m the first in my family to go to college, let alone graduate from high school. I like myself because I finally know within myself that I am a strong person, no matter what others say or think and I am happy being ME. Thanks for this post!

What a fantastic comment Michelle, well done you. That’s a fantastic reason to like yourself. It feels good to say it too doesn’t it.

Yes it does! There was a time when I didn’t think I would ever like myself but I do and I’m not going backwards in my thinking, ever! It’s an amazing feeling to just KNOW you are good enough.
