After years of seeing them on Pinterest and fellow bloggers’ posts, I bought some water beads. Actually, I don’t know why it took me so long, since I bought 24 packs for £2.77.

They take a bit of forethought, as you have to put one pack in 1.5 litres of water and leave them for about 8 hours. I left 4 packs in two bowls overnight, and found that they actually didn’t soak up all of the water.

The first thing we discovered was that water beads are really slippery! We put the tray on a blanket to avoid the beads slipping all over the floor… that sort of worked! The beads you can see on the tray here are from four packets. I think next time we play with them I’ll prepare more of them and use a container with wider sides to keep them in!

S really enjoyed playing with the beads and kept giggling at them slipping out of her hands.

It was fun to make them “rain” down onto the tray as well.

Eventually we put the water beads into a bowl and played with them. After a while S discovered she could squish them up in her hands – which was nice, but a bit messy to clean up.
