S is very particular about her clothing. She chooses her outfits each morning, and I’ve long since given up trying to make her wear anything at all. This poses a bit of a problem then, when companies want to send us clothes for her. It’s hit and miss, when the clothes turn up, as to whether she’ll actually put them on and smile nicely for the camera!

A little while ago, House of Fraser asked if S would like some Summer shorts to try out. After some deliberating, I chose a gorgeous pair I thought she would really like… then the weather changed, and with it raining every day, we didn’t have much cause to wear shorts. When the sunshine eventually began to appear again, I showed S the shorts. She agreed they were very pretty, but refused to wear them.

Each morning I would show her the shorts and ask if she’d like to wear them. She refused. Some mornings, she even cried. I began to think I would have to do a rubbish post with just a photo of the shorts.

And then, on Sunday morning, she just picked them up and put them on. And then she danced on the bed in them.

Later that morning, we went to our local book shop to see Abie Longstaff. She read her new book, and then the children played with some dollies. S took great pleasure in showing Abie her new shorts, which were of course admired greatly.

By some miracle, the shorts survived the day with no spillages or accidents, which was good because when she got up on Monday morning, S wanted to wear them again.

And so we had a second day in the shorts, during which this happened:

Apparently she likes her shorts!

Hopefully she won’t change her mind back again…

It’s amazing how early some children develop taste in clothes and decide what they like to wear (or not!). I had to sell some really lovely unworn items that my daughter refused to wear, now I know her taste but I still prefer to take her shopping than rely on my own judgement!

haha I can’t rely on my own judgement – but also, S’s taste seems to change randomly. In the mornings I pull a pile of t shirts down and we go through one by one until she says “yes” – sometimes we get right to the bottom of the pile before she chooses; other times she chooses a t shirt she’s said no to for the past 2 weeks. Last week she specifically asked for a t shirt she got for Christmas but had steadfastly refused to wear for 5 months! Kids, eh!
