Goal Setting for Greatness

Welcome to my weekly goal setting linky. Thank you to everyone who joined in last week; for those who didn’t, here’s how it works. You can set yourself some goals, and join up to the linky – then we all leave positive and supportive comments on each other’s posts. Next week, we all come back and review how we did with this week’s goals, and then set some more.

I also set myself monthly goals, which you are of course welcome to join in with.

The only rules are that you must visit the two people directly ahead of you, and leave a supportive comment on their blog. There’s also a badge at the bottom of the page to add to your post.

Goals for May

Bring More Money Through The Door – For all my running around in April, I ended the month £100 down on the month before. My goal for May is to make that £100 back, plus more on top if I can.

Improve Blog Traffic – My over all page views for April were down around 800 on March. In May I would like, at the very least, to beat my April total, and hopefully to beat March too. In theory, this should be easier as there are 31 days in which to do so.

Get to Inbox Zero – At the time of writing, I have 110 unread mails in my email. This is partly due to the fact all of the clever Gmail rules I set up to send junk mail straight to the bin seem to have undone themselves (has anyone else had this happen?), and partly because I’m just terrible for just not reading mails, thinking I’ll come back and open them when I have time to deal with them or something. In the meantime, 50 more junk mails come in, and the one mail I wanted to read is buried. No more! I want to empty my mailbox out, and deal with everything – so that when a new and exciting opportunity lands in my mailbox, I won’t miss it!

Last Week’s Weekly Goals

Make a To-Do List every evening – I didn’t manage this every evening, but I did go to Paperchase and buy myself a very nice magnetic to-do list pad which is on the side of my fridge. And I made a list for work and a list for the blog. It feels weirdly satisfying to tick things off when I’ve done them – and to write a new list at the end of the day.

Promote my blog posts on all platforms – I’ve done reasonably well with this. I think perhaps my prolificacy with posts (around 21 last week) means that short of spamming all of my social media, I probably don’t promote my posts as well as I could or should. I’m considering doing something about that, but I’m not sure whether my idea is a stupid one.

Get down to 50 unread emails – I did that, more than once. I’ve unsubscribed from a bunch of emails, set up several rules and deleted, deleted, deleted. But still, I can never stay below 50 unread mails for more than a matter of hours. More work needed I think!

This week’s goals

Work on my Productivity – I am aware this is a very wishy-washy goal that is not measurable in any sense of the word. But I am not terribly productive in my day to day life, and if I want to get more money through the door I need to make better use of my time. This week I have meetings, work in offices and other commitments that mean I’m on a tight schedule for getting proper work done. And I don’t fancy spending every evening on it! So productivity is my word of the week!
Get ahead with blog schedulingI love scheduling blog posts and think it’s the best way for me to stay productive on my blog. That said, things have gotten on top of me lately and I’ve been slacking a little. I want to get back to being at least a couple of days ahead with the bulk of my posts.
Maintain 40 unread emails – I managed to get to 50 last week, and this week I want to be consistently at or below 40 unread mails. To do that I will need to unsubscribe from more newsletters, delete more, and create more filters. It’s doable, but will mean me being more disciplined than just deleting email and thinking “I’ll catch that one next time” which is what I’ve been doing until now.
Now it’s your turn! If you’d like to join in please add the badge below to your post, and link it up here:

Goal Setting for Greatness

This linky will be live until Wednesday evening, so feel free to add a post later in the week if you’ve not got round to setting any goals yet.

Thank you so much for starting this linky. I’ve been thinking about my goals and not having to admit I failed all week!

I’m so envious of your e-mail achievements I’m still sitting at around 3000 unread!

I’ll check back later to see who else has linked up :)

Morna, one top tip I learned a while back is to search your email for the word “unsubscribe.”
That brings up all the newsletters and junk, and you can just delete all of them in one go, then unsubscribe from them individually as they come into your inbox next time around. That’s how I got mine down from about 6000 unread to start with last year.
Thanks for joining in with the linky!

Great goals! You’ve inspired me to work on my inbox too!

As a single parent and freelance writer, my goal for the week is ALWAYS to earn more than I did the week before! It still is, but I also give myself some slack for managing also to put healthy food on the table and to be there for my kiddo. And dating? I try, occasionally! I’m into this site that gives me some inspiration: http://www.ileftvenusforthis.com/ Good luck with your goals!

I’m avoiding the whole dating thing at the moment, can’t be bothered!

I used to schedule blog posts back when I blogged “for real” ;) Now that I am just getting back into blogging at all using my old photoblog I haven’t been very motivated. I wonder if that would help? Great goals!

Scheduling really helps me to keep my blog on track and blog consistently at the same time each day. I love it!

Great week Vicky, oh I really need to get back to scheduling posts, saves so much stress! I don’t know how you do it with so many great posts being published everyday! X #goalsforgreatness
