Nemo and Giraffe review

I was delighted last week to receive an email from Lee Hunter, a children’s author and childcare practitioner.  She is a childminder Elgin, Scotland. and has recently written a book based on the life of her own cat, Nemo. The book is called Nemo and Giraffe, and Lee was wondering if I would like to review it.

As someone who has often toyed with the idea of writing children’s books, I’m in awe of Lee, as someone who has got up off her bum and actually done it. Not only did she write the book, she set up a Kickstarter campaign to allow her to commission an illustrator. My hat goes off to her! The idea behind the book is to teach children about pets and how to have a respectful and happy relationship with them.

The book is all about Nemo the cat and his best friend, who is a giraffe. The illustrations by Lindy Damen are gorgeous, and there’s just the right amount of text on each page. Nemo and Giraffe are best friends and they move house together; Nemo has never been outside but he doesn’t mind because the dog next door barks and scares him. He sits in the window with Giraffe and watches the neighbourhood cats instead.

I love the message of this book: that you don’t have to look the same to be best friends. It’s a lovely book and S has enjoyed it several times over the last few days. She has a real thing about giraffes at the moment so this story had a special significance for her.

We really love this book and would recommend it to all children. I hope there will be a new Nemo and Giraffe book soon!

Thanks for reading.

A giraffe and a cat is an unusual and intriguing combination. It sounds like a fun story :)

This sounds like the perfect book for my kids, they are all a bit afraid of pets, might make them understand animals better. thanks for sharing with #readwithme x
