Weekly weigh in 6

This week has been tough, and something of an eye-opener. I’ve found that I have a real sugar addiction, and a habit too – I’m in the habit of eating (and drinking) sweet things, and when I don’t have sugar I get awful sumptoms – and will binge on whatever I can find. This is definitely something I need to work on!

This week I also got my login for a site called New Me. It’s a site that provides you with a workout regime and diet suggestions – but also a diary area where you can record what you eat and drink, as well as what exercise you do. It shows you clearly how many calories you’ve eaten today, and how many you’ve burned off as well as a breakdown of percentage intakes of fats, proteins and carbs. I’m not necessarily counting calories because I know that not all calories are the same – but it is handy to see just how many calories I’m eating, and how much certain exercises will burn off. I think I react well to this kind of site, that tracks what you eat adn the calories you burn off; I end up competing against myself to see if I can increase my percentage intake of protein and things like that.

My biggest high point of this week is that I’ve managed to get S out of the habit of needing one of those Fruit Shoot drinks  – or two, or three. What started off as a treat if we were in town soon became me buying multi packs of them because it was cheaper in the long run – which meant they were in the house, and she began to expect them all the time. I’ve managed to hide the few that were left in the house, and began putting water into fancy drink bottles for her. In the mornings she has milk, and the rest of the time she’ll usually have water – possibly because she sees me drinking from an Evian bottle all day, and wants to be like me. She’s very pleased with herself when she finishes her bottle and gets to have it refilled! We do still sometimes stop at the shop on the way home from nursery – but that particular shop only sells tiny cartons of apple juice, which are still far from ideal, but a lot smaller than a bottle of the squash she was having before.

Goal for last week

Last week’s goal was to completely stop drinking Coke. I did have a couple of days where I didn’t drink any, and a couple where I drank that awful Coke Life stuff instead of actual Coke. My problem is that without sugar, I have absolutely no tolerance for anything and have awful headaches. With a 4-day weekend as well as S’s normal day off nursery on Wednesday, I really don’t want to be taking out my detox on her – so I have been drinking a little. What’s interesting is that on Thursday I gave in and opened a bottle of Coke… normally that would go down in a few minutes and give me an instant relief from feeling tired, headachey and grumpy. This time I forced down about half the bottle in order to get a bit of relief from feeling bad – but I didn’t enjoy it at all.

Goal for this week

This week it is S’s birthday so we are spending the day together on Thursday, and then having a joint party with a friend at the weekend. I think it would be unrealistic to say I want to be completely sugar free by the end of the week to be honest! Instead, I’m going to say that by the end of the week, I want to still be committed to going sugar free, and to not have pigged out on sugary crap.

Exercise

I’ve not done my Davina dvd at all this week. I began my New Me plan on Thursday and that comes with its own fitness plan where they give you the exercises to do. Thursday’s exercise was to walk for 20 minutes but I ended up walking for longer because I went for a walk after nursery drop off. I’ve also done some exercises at home, and when I go for walks with S I use Map My Walk to track how far we walk, and record that on the site.

Food/Drink

I’ve had a couple of awful binges this week. On Monday I was in a rush between work and nursery pick-up, and knew I needed to pick up some Easter eggs for family and friends. I hadn’t counted how many though, so I just picked up ten, thinking that should be enough. When I had put S into bed that evening I discovered I had over estimated and actually only needed 8 eggs – so I ended up eating the spare two. This was awful as I didn’t really enjoy them, and felt pretty sick for the rest of the evening. Worst of all, I woke up at 3am unable to get back to sleep and feeling hung over.

Although a binge is never a good thing, I think it’s good that I recognised I didn’t enjoy eating them, and that I noticed the effects the chocolate had on me. In the past my diet has been so filled with crap I’ve not noticed a sugar high or how any particular food made me feel.  I do need to put some sort of coping mechanism in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again though – a binge is worse than just saying “right, I’m going to have some chocolate” and just eating it!

Using New Me to track my food has made me realise that actually, on a lot of days I’m probably not eating enough food. So far every day I’ve had “left over” calories at the end of the day – which is not a bad thing, but I’ve a feeling there are too many left over calories, and I should be eating more. I will work on filling that gap with more vegetables this week!

Weight & Measurements

Weight: 167lb. Same as last week.
Neck: 14″ same as last week
Bust: 37″ Same as last week
Waist: 35″ Same as last week
Hips: 39″ Same as last week

R&L Calf: 14.5″/14.5″ Last week: 14.5″/14″

Aside from my legs, no loss – which is actually a good thing, considering that I’m still drinking Coke and had a couple of sugar binges. Hopefully this week I can stop both of those things, stick to my New Me exercise plan and lose a pound or two!

Keep going, you will be sugar free in the end! I was addicted at the end of last year, so started January with a chocolate ban. The first few days were hell! I had the most awful headaches and my mood was all over the place, but as I got to the end of the first week I felt so much better and I got through it! After a chocolate binge yesterday eating lots of Easter eggs I’ve woken up with the worst headache and feeling awful! Back to the chocolate ban for me! It’s good you’ve found a site to help you, writing down what I eat definitely helps me! Your doing great and I hope you and your daughter have a great time for her birthday and party! :)

Good luck with New Me chick – I am on it too, have to admit that calorie counting really does work for me. Need to get back into it though, this week will be difficult as Beth and her brood are coming up to stay with me. Though roll on the weekend when mini me goes to her dad’s – a free week will make making the right choices a lot easier.
Sounds like you are making progress with the Coke drinking – struggling to finish something and actually disliking the taste is a big leap! I was like that with smoking at Christmas – after 10 years, I hated the taste, smell, everything about it. At New Year I gave up and haven’t looked back. You can do it! Hope you are having a good week! Sim #WeightLossWednesday xx

Thanks Sim, I’m finding that having to record what I eat is really helping – and the calorie content of foods is something I’ve never really considered before so it’s interesting to see. I’m now on day with no Coke at all, and I don’t even really miss it – I think a lot of it was habit to be honest! Fingers crossed for next weigh in… x

I’m a real sugar junkie too but am trying my hardest to eat clean-easier said than done. Good luck for the week ahead

I’m a real sugar junkie, trying slowly to reduce the amount I have. As strange as it sounds binges are sometimes a good thing, you can draw a line under it and start a fresh the next day. #weightlosswednesday

I think you’re right – also when I was eating loads of sugar, I would just eat loads and loads and didn’t notice the effect it was having. Once I started to cut back, a binge really noticed and I began to realise what sugar was doing to me, if you see what I mean.

It’s good that you felt like you’d overdone the chocolate, your body is obviously ready to cut it out! Good luck moving forward Vicky, I can’t imagine it’s easy but one step at a time. Thanks for linking up with #BloggingToJogging xx
