Sundays are always my favourite day of the week. They start with a lovely family breakfast with my husband and beautiful little girl, Mim 05Miss M and her Nanny and Grandad – my parents. This is the time each week that we always see each other in a relaxed environment, catching up on how our week has been and most importantly (for me) eating yummy food.

We moved back to the UK recently and now live around the corner from my parents. Having been in Australia for the past 7 years, I really make the most of having them so close by now and we all love it.

Last Sunday, I decided before we set off for breakfast that I would put one of my New Year’s resolutions into action and drive there. After around 11 years of not driving, I’m determined to get back behind the wheel and be a confident driver again. I drove us to meet my parents and although it was only a 15 minute drive, it was a great start to the day for me, really positive.

We finished breakfast at about 11.30am and as Miss M starts her nap around lunchtime we decided to go for a drive to see if she would sleep on the way and to get a bit more driving practice for me. I drove into the nearest city about 30 minutes away and she did sleep – hurray, sleeping baby and driving practice complete! I even managed to park although it was in a section of the car park with no other cars around.

We transferred Miss M to the stroller and headed into the town for a walk around the shops and the park and Miss M woke up just in time to have a look at the birds. After that we headed back to the car and Mr M drove us to the local Wacky Warehouse for our first trip to soft play! We had wanted to go for ages but thought Miss M might be a little too young and although she was the smallest there, she had the best time ever bouncing in the ball pool, climbing up ramps and attempting to climb UP the slide rather than slide down. The only person there close to having as much fun as her was Mr M – he turned into a big kid as soon as he stepped inside and it was so lovely to watch them playing together. I’m nearly 6 months pregnant so a bit limited on what I could do – well I didn’t want to get stuck in a tunnel!

After a while it was time to go and you can imagine the mini tantrum I was faced with – from toddler and daddy in having to leave! The promise of lunch helped steer both of them to the door thankfully and we headed into the pub next door and a quick lunch before driving home.

I definitely recommend soft play for any kids who are walking. One of us stayed with her the whole time as the bigger kids so get a bit boisterous and could have knocked her over but she had so much fun letting off steam and running riot through the place. I can see soft play becoming a weekly activity for us – Mr M certainly hopes so!
