Reasons to be Cheerful

How is everyone today? Filled with the joys of… oh, wait. It’s bloody miserable here. Cold and wet and January-ish. On the plus side though, today is Thursday and tomorrow is Friday. And even when it’s cold and wet and January-ish, I love Fridays.

Any way, enough of all that. Let’s talk about my reasons to be cheerful this week…

Unexpected Good Fortune – my mum moved house a few weeks ago, and after much nagging from her children, has been sorting IMG_20150129_085119through boxes and throwing things out. Lots of things she moved house with last time and promptly stored under the stairs are finally seeing the light of day. On Sunday she came round to drop off a breadmaker for us, and handed me an old Halifax savings book saying “I found this in a box… you might need some ID!” It was a savings book she had started for me when I was a baby; the last entry in it was from 1987, after which point I guess my parents ran out of “spare” money for savings and after a couple of house moves the account was forgotten about. Twenty eight years later, this has come at exactly the right time, as I’ve been thinking about an idea for a business venture, and S and I really need some new clothes.

Podcast Shenanigans – yes, I know this was one of my Reasons last week – but this week I managed to record, edit and post my second podcast. It’s longer than the first one, I was more confident with editing it and adding soundbytes at the beginning and the end and… I’m just impressed I managed it twice in a row. I also managed to resolve some hosting issues that had been bothering me for a while – without any help from the people I would usually turn to for such things. I’m really pleased I managed to do it on my own, and hopefully this week’s podcast is a little better than last week’s.

Biting the Bullet – I’ve been self employed for over a year now, and had never once been to a “networking” event. I hated the idea of giving people my business cards and doing the whole networking thing. I had been to other events where there were talks and what have you, with a bit of networking thrown in – but the idea of going to something specifically for networking terrified me. What if I ended up in the corner with nobody to talk to? What if I couldn’t think of anything to talk about? What if, what if, what if. Earlier this month I had a meeting with a business mentor who told me that I really just have to get my face out there and meet people or I’m never going to grow my business. So I booked myself in for a drop-in event and bit the bullet. And do you know what? It wasn’t too bad. I chatted to some people and had some free coffee. Roll on the next one.

is this the cutest kid in the world

Great reasons to be cheerful! Good for you for overcoming your nerves and pushing yourself forward by going to the networking event. I used to hate those things when I was working - small talk is definitely not my strongest point! x #WeekendBlogHop Lorna - It's a Mummy Thing recently posted...Orlando with a Pre-schooler – Part 2My Profile

Thanks! Am still terrified of it but it's one of those things where you just have to crack on I suppose. Am telling myself it will get less daunting...

Podcasting terrifies me too, but it's getting easier (and therefore longer) each week!
