Aveeno dry skin book review

The lovely people at Aveeno sent S and I a book and some Aveeno products to try out. We love Aveeno; this time we were sent some bath & shower gel to try out, which was a real treat.

They also sent us a copy of this book by Penelope Harper. It’s about a little girl called Ellie and her friend Eddie, the gecko. Both suffer with dry skin; through the course of the story they get into situations that could irritate their skin – an itchy woolly jumper, a hot green house, a smoky bonfire. Then Ellie has a bath with her special lotion, and after that her parents rub cream into her body. She sprays water into Eddie’s tank and they go to bed.

It’s a lovely little story that normalises the idea of having dry skin, and things like woolly jumpers making your skin itch. I remember having dry skin as a kid, and wondering how people wore jumpers like that without spending all day scratching!

This is a great book to read with S; it’s always nice for children to see something from their own lives reflected in a book. It normalises something they might feel a little weird about – not all children have special ointment in the bath or cream before bed.

S really enjoyed reading this book with me; she sat on my lap and we read it twice through. Her favourite part of it was that there was a picture of Ellie and Eddie in the back cover for her to colour in.

She loves the Aveeno too because she knows it’s her special magic cream for when her skin gets itchy.

A great idea to have a book to go with the cream. Sounds like a really sweet story :)

We have this too and are also fans of Aveeno. It’s so good! #TriedTested

I wonder if they do this book with a little boy. My little one has terrible dry skin (although it is a lot better now) and this would be great for him to understand why we need to put cream on him!

Lovely idea – my 2 boys have eczema and I think reading this book would help them to identify with the need for cream. Aveeno is great stuff! Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested

We adore Aveeno. Ben refers to it as “magic cream” :)

That looks like a great book. My son suffers with dry, itchy skin on his arms so this would be a great read for him. Thanks for linking up with reading together.
