Suddenly, seemingly from nowhere (for nowhere, read probably nursery), S is pointing out letters and numbers.

She’s been able to recognise the number 8 for a while, and enjoys pointing it out wherever she sees it. I thought that was a one-off though, because it’s kind of distinctive.

The other day, she picked up her Peppa Pig phone and pointed out the number five.

A while later, we were writing out Christmas cards. She loves to write her name, so we wrote her name in lots of cards, all in one go. I noticed that she was saying the letters at the same time as I was, but wasn’t sure whether she was just parroting me, or really understood what I was saying.

A couple of days after that, we were in town and she pointed up at McDonald’s and said Look mummy, mmm!

Since then, she points out an M wherever she happens to see it.

One of the shops near us is empty, and has a large board in the window with a contact number for the contractors working on the site. S stops outside it every day and points out as many numbers as she can.

I know all kids learn this stuff, and that they probably do things like writing their names at nursery, but still – it was pretty awesome to hear S coming out with these things!

So wonderful! Who cares if it’s a tiny achievement, it’s still an achievement!

Hello there, this is so lovely-it’s such a wonderful feeling when they start to recognise things like this and really exciting! We have found Alphablocks really got our little boy interested in letters, and it’s one of the few things he sits still for! x #ssamazingachievements

This is lovely, even better when it is unexpected. It’s great being able to talk about numbers and letter together. I’m impressed she pointed out the McDonald’s M and didn’t want to go in there x

ha Jane, we live less than a block away from McDonald’s now. S is not really interested in it though – we only go in to get a Fruit Shoot for a special treat if we can’t be bothered to walk further into town!

Lovely moments for you, clever girl!
We used to point out numbers and letters everywhere, a walk used to take ages because we’d look at house numbers, count flowers, bus numbers etc. It was a lot of fun though.
She’ll be reading before you know it.
Thanks for linking up with #SSAmazingAchievements :)

Thanks Jeannette! S loves to point out M’s wherever she sees them now… as long as I allow extra walking time for the nursery run it’s all good fun!
