#DayInTheLife (2)

Christina Pengelly maintains a blog on lifestyle, living, crafts and food on the Ware Street Market website. Ware Street Market showcases the work of artisans and artists, crafters and clever people.  This is a day in her life…

I’m always the last one up in my house. My boys are the early-bird risers and have long established a routine that takes care of their basic needs of breakfast and TV between the hours of 5:30 am and 7:00 am. This Vampire-Bride arises at 7 am to start the day off with a cup of hot lemon water while unloading the dishwasher and making sure my secondary-school darling son doesn’t forget his shoes. Darling husband takes over and makes sure all homework in the right bag and off they fly to school. Further lunches are made, starving cats are fed, and a short snuggle-time with my primary-school darling son finish off the morning routine.

Coffee. And another. If I don’t go for a power-walk (choke on coffee) or a cycle ride, I work until lunchtime. Lunch will always be a healthy sandwich and a few (just a few!) ready salted crisps. I am slowly giving up bread, as I feel so much better when I don’t eat it, but I love bread too much, so it’s a slow process.

As the only person ‘employed’ at WareStreetMarket.com, I do everything. Some days I will review the website to make sure the crafters have uniformly uploaded their photos and descriptions, or concentrate on social media as I get a lot of response from Facebook and Twitter. Some days, I’ll meet with the crafters for a coffee or attend a networking event. Other days I will spend a few hours talking to magazine editors and writing articles. My latest articles have appeared in the December issues of Craftseller and Crafts Beautiful magazines.

Things start to come alive at 3:30 pm, when my Little Darlings come home from school. The afternoon entails making snacks, listening to their day or chauffeuring one or both to endless sports or playdates. We tend to have our tea early. I try to cook organic, so it will be a nice chicken or pork stew with homemade dumplings…rice if I’m tired. The boys have been getting into baking – so we might whip up a loaf of bread (they race to see who can knead the longest) or make a batch of chocolate chip cookies. With Christmas coming, I have lots of ideas of baking star-shaped cookies, fudge and cakes…but I will probably spend some good quality time with the boys at the local supermarket buying all these….

I get my second-wind in the evening and work until 10 pm or later, pausing to wish the boys a good-night and empty their rooms of any roaming cats as these feline strumpets tend to sleep on their faces. Depending on the day, I’ll always watch a little TV to unwind, have a slurp of wine and browse through a crafting magazine dreaming of all the things I’m going to make….
